An Invitation

One weekend morning, Celeste was busy drawing at her table while I ran about the house getting a few chores done. I was surprised to walk into the living room and find that she had moved her chairs in there, and arranged them at the coffee table. When she saw me, she invited me to sit with her. How could I not? a play day

Always interested to find new places for Celeste to explore, here's some photos from an adventure we took on Monday.

foundations for castles

Celeste and her cousin Liam play together in the sandbox.

When I was younger, I always envied those kids that had so many cousins you could hardly keep them all straight. I wish for that for Celeste. I wish for her to be surrounded by so many friends and family that, to a young kid, it might seem like she knew everyone in the entire world. And that starts like this, in this sandbox, building foundations.

Adventures With a Kitty

The other day, we were playing over at a friend's house. Céleste had the run of the place and was taking great delight in crawling at full speed, chasing Vigo, the cat. Eventually Vigo went to hide in some corner, and Céleste's attention turned to a new toy: the metal spring door stopper. She'd played with these before, at home, and always loved to make them spring back and forth, laughing at the funny noise. So she did the same thing this time. Sprrrrrroiiiiiing! She'd hit it with her hand and it would vibrate back and forth, her laughing all the while. Apparently the baby laughter got Vigo intrigued because he came poking his nose out from his hiding place and padded over to where Céleste was sitting. He sat on the other side of her and the door stopper and watched her intently as she kept hitting it. Sprrrrrrroiiiiiiiing! Eventually the cat decided he wanted in on the fun. He reached a paw out and batted the stopper on his own. Sprrrrrrroiiiiiiiing! He recoiled a bit, and Céleste erupted in a fit of laughter. Then she decided it was her turn again, and she hit the stopper. Then the cat did again. And then her. On and on they took turns batting at the door stopper, listening to the ridiculous noise, Céleste's giggles filling up the room. I could only imagine the telepathic conversation taking place between the two of them. "Hey, small fry, make it make that noise again!" (Céleste hits the door stopper, cat leans in to investigate, Céleste pushes him out of the way.) "Back off, furball, this is my toy!.... Okay, fine, I'll let you do it once!" (Vigo swats at the door stopper.) "Hahahahaha! You're a funny kitty!" I only wish I would have had a video camera to record it all. It was almost too surreal for words.
